"My music has been changing a great deal over the last few years, mainly because of a shifting from my initial interest in New Complexity to something less stylistically definable. Exposure to Feldman, the later works of Karel Goeyvaerts and above all the music of the Italian composer Aldo Clementi resulted in a fascination with the ideas of obsessive repetition and monotony. In fact, someone once told me that they thought that Clementi's music was "an interesting shade of grey", an aesthetic that I've attempted to adopt for myself, as a kind of reaction against the ubiquitous "contrast" that dominates mainstream modernism, the idea that somehow we have to fit the entire universe of sounds into one piece."
